Trainings pt. III – Yancha’s training

5 12 2009

Yancha’s training occurs parallel to Goku’s training, under Turtle Style . Already in Dragon Ball we can see how Yancha’s trainings are completely inadequate, because he trained totally wrong. At principle, Yancha starts training body-to-body, challenging all the karate fighters of an academy, and knocking all of them down. Then, the academy’s sensei, a huge bald man, faces Yancha.

The old desert bandit easily dodges and one Rogafufuken is sufficient to defeat the opponent. Disappointed with the situation of his training, and without finding opponents as good as him, Yancha goes to another type of training.

A little better than the first, Yancha’s second training for the 210 World Martial Arts Tournament valorizes the “animal” side of Yancha’s techniques. As a solitary wolf, Yancha runs, polishes, trains movements and destroy rocks with Rogafufuken.

This is Yancha’s simple training. Although he is a great martial artist, he is not a great master, for not knowing how to train properly his body and mind. That is so true that only after he trained with Mutenroshi, Kami-Sama and Kaio-Sama that Yancha could become much more powerful. Below, you can see the lyric of Wolf Hurricane, in tribute to the solitary wolf, Yancha!

We will keep posting on training styles, continuing with Goku training with Karin-Sama! Wait and see!

Trainings-pt.II – Turtle Style

21 11 2009

The second training that we see in Dragonball happens after Pilaf’s Saga, when Goku decides to go to train with the legendary master of martial arts, Master Roshi. The true trainings really starts after they moved for a bigger island to be able to train, and in the training, Krillin joins our hero, obtaining free pass to train after giving Roshi an erotic magazine.

Before the first day of training Master Roshi aks his pupils what kind of training they had, but he already know that Goku had trained with Son Gohan for a long period. Krillin says that had trained in the Oorinji Temple, for eight years. After knowing his pupils historic, Master Roshi does his first test, to evaluate the speed of Goku and Krillin. Roshi clocked how much they would take to complete 100 meters (Goku: 8,5 seconds and Kulilin: 10,44 seconds) and after that he showed his own time (5,0 seconds), demonstrating that his pupils were with human capacity only, but he surpassed it. Roshi’s second test was evaluate the concentration and persistence of the pupils to find a small rock with Roshi’s name written on, thrown into the jungle.

The real training starts soon, waking up at 4:30 AM, doing a lightly warming run, troting behind Master Mutenroshi.

The first part of the training start early, and in this part of the training, Goku and Krillin are milk delivers. The pupils must deliver milk all over the island. This trainings focus the development of the resistence.

During the milk delivery, the apprentices face strong watercourses, long races, zigzags between trees, and an interminable ascent in a staircase. They develop the balance, crossing small ways, as a tree trunk; improve the agility, preventing to sink in the quicksand and run away from a giant dinosaur. Dawn’s training finish and right after starts the morning training.

The morning training is to plough an agricultural field with the proper hands, fortifying the arm and it making a stronger and resistant hand. After the morning training, they have a pause for the breakfast.

In the interval between breakfast and lunch, they have a reading session, as normal lessons that we have at school. Perhaps this is the more important training of all although people usually not privilege this kind of training. The mental training helps the fighter to create strategies much faster than usual and strategies better, guaranteeing in a lot of the cases the victory. Great martial artists are great not only because they have a spectacular physical capacity, they receive this title for their capacity to formulate strategies in seconds, guaranteeing the victory.

In this stage of the training, Goku and Krillin read different books until lunch time. Roshi says that a strong body is useless unless it has a head to use it and that uses the power of the mind. A funny thing is that the “literature” that Master Roshi teaches is probably with erotic book histories. After the lunch, they rest for an hour – Mutenroshi says: this is Roshi style training, to exercise well, to study well and to sleep well.

In the first the training of the afternoon, the training also involves force and resistance, when they work with civilian construction. The development of the force happens with the loading of the weights and the development of the resistance happens with the repetitions of the physical efforts, carrying and transporting the materials to the construction.

The second training of the afternoon apparently looks easy in the beginning. The only thing Goku and Krillin had to do was to swim in a lake, and make 10 laps. Until there, everything was easy to Roshi’s pupils. However, the motivation of the training was a “little” shark that lived in the lake. A funny thing is that in the persecution, the famous music of “Shark”(Steven Spielberg) is touched! When Goku and Krillin arrive in the other side of the lake, they find out they’re second motivation to keep training: an enourmous hungry dinosaur. One more time, the young pupils are obliged to give another lap in the lake, being forced to continue with the training.

The last of the trainings works again with the resistance and also work the reflex, the speed and the concentration of Roshi’s students. The master mooring cable his apprentices with a rope in a trunk of a tree, and says that in some situations of combat, you only have a delimited space to fight, then the boys would have to learn how to dodge from an enemy in a delimited ray. The enemy, in the case of the training, is a beehive of furious bees that attack the boys after Mutenroshi knocks the beehive.

In the end of the first day of trainings, Roshi gives his pupils what make him famous, a turtle carcass (kame in Japanese), that weighs 50 pounds. The boys start training all day with this extra weight. Then, weeks before the World Martial Arts Tournament (Tenkaichi Budokai), Roshi gives Goku and Krillin a twice heavier turtle carcass, with 100 pounds, saying that it was to close the training with golden key.
